October 7 Granite Falls to Ironwood, Wisconsin

Pretty much a drive day. We’ve traveled this route before and have fond memories of time spent in Duluth and on Lake Superior.

A bald eagle flies out in front of the truck, tracks us for several wing beats then peels off. An impressive drive-by for sure.

This is the land of lakes and there are people-powered boats on many of them. It speaks to the heartiness of the natives and their good sense in avoiding noisy engine-powered conveyances.

Fall is being celebrated with bright orange pumpkin displays on front porches and steps. Huge grain elevators with Jake-like conveyors dominate tiny towns.

We see an ethanol refinery on one side of the road and a solar panel production plant on the other. Several long trucks, moving slowly, carry one blade of a wind tower apiece. And then comes a truck carrying the base. The gigantic puzzle will be put together at another time and place.
