We take the bridge over St
Mary’s River and are held up by a construction crew. This is a perfect perch
because we sit in the middle of the bridge and take in the view of the Soo Locks
and the water flowing between Lake Superior and Lake Huron.
Bienvenue to Canada.
“Ligne d’arret au feu rouge”
We cross the border without
incident. Thought they might ask about fruits and vegetables on board, but no,
just interested in guns.
We must be in Amish country.
The caution signs for buggies are as prevalent as deer crossing signs. We do
pass an Amish couple driving a horse and buggy on the shoulder, she’s wearing a
bonnet, he has a beard.
Greens, yellows, reds are
arranged along the banks of the Blind River as if they had been put in place by
a professional landscaper.
We drive the shoreline of
Lake Huron, our third Great Lake.
And another new sign: “Please
Don’t Feed the Bears” Okay.
All road signs are now in
French and English.
We drive into Riverside State
Park intending to stay the night. Unfortunately, it’s closed for the season.
Looks like it would have been a great place though.
Instead we search for the
nearest WalMart.
