Change time zones lose 1 hour. We are now on Eastern Time.
It’s a beautiful, sunny
morning and we are cruising along the shore of Lake Superior. The sunshine
brightens the fall colors. The road is bordered by long stretches of deciduous
trees. A crow plays chicken with us, landing in the middle of the road and
staring down the truck until with seconds to spare he flies off.
We are fortunate to discover Irontown Pasties, (801 N. Teal Lake
Ave, Negkaunee, MI), and score big time. Pasties in the fridge for later and
pasties in the freezer for much later, chicken, veggie, beef. Salut! Thomas Mulcahy.
A gravel pullout lake-side
makes a sunny lunch stop.
We’ve passed this way before
on a previous trip. We revisit Munising the site of many memories: a 50’s motel
on the lake, a glass-bottomed boat tour, a cruise to pictured rocks, and a
previous pasty stop, Muldoon’s.
We trade Superior for Michigan
and enjoy the views.
A detour just 25 miles from
our overnight stop takes us away from Lake Michigan, but we circle back and get
so close to the beach there are signs warning motorists to “watch for sand on
the road”.
We settle in for two nights
with a lake view.
We fall asleep listening to the “thrum, thrum” of freighters on the water and if we peek outside we can see their lights in the distance.
