We survive the freeway maze
getting out of Quebec City but it takes patience with a capital “P”. We are indebted
to our GPS for doing the navigating. We’d have been (literally) lost without
her. Thankfully we started just late enough that we avoided most of the rush
hour traffic.
The St Lawrence River is
grand this morning. We’ve been traveling in corridors of trees and rock ledges,
but today we are privy to wide countryside vistas. Patchworks of trees, farms,
small towns, green and brown fields plowed and unplowed, are spread wide on
both sides of the road. Fromagerie signs
pop up frequently proclaiming themselves as visitor attractions.
We take an exploratory
side-trip into Riviere-du-Loup, on the banks of the St Lawrence River and find
a wayside along the water. Beautiful day, beautiful view. Time for a deep
breath and gratitude for the privilege of living on earth.
Sunshine lights up the fall
colors. Large ornately steepled churches are a frequent sight intermingled with
the ever-present moose-crossing warning signs.
We lose another hour. We are
now on Atlantic Time. A new time zone for us.
Our hostess tonight gives us
a lead on a place to stay near PEI. She says it’s closed, but not closed and
contacts the owner telling her she’s sending travelers her way.
